PE Parent Letter,

Physical Education in schools is the cornerstone of an active lifestyle for all students. School PE programs provide skills, knowledge and attitudes that facilitate choosing physical activity at home, at school, and in the community. It is my ultimate mission to educate your children about the importance of exercise and movitivate them to participate in a lifetime of physical activity. As a certified physical education teacher, I pledge to:

- guide students into becoming skillful and confident movers

- facilitate the development and maintenance of physical fitness

- assist students in setting and achieving personal fitness goals

- establish a positive and safe learning environment for all students

- teach a variety of physical activities that make PE class fun to ALL

- create many opportunities for students of all abilities to be successful

- promote student honesty, integrity, and good sportsmanship

- provide specific, constructive feedback to help students master motor skills

- prepare and encourage students to gain skills and be active for a lifetime

Dress Code: Please help your child remember their PE schedule and to dress accordingly. Wearing tennis shoes is a must for  safety and success. Please no Crocs, flip flops, or sandals.

Health Problems: If your child needs to be restricted from participating in any physical activity because of illness or injury, they must provide a written note from you or a physician.

Discipline Plan: If a student is having difficulty following class expectations, they will receive a verbal warning. If the behavior continues they will be given a yellow card and will be sent to the "Think Tank". The "Think Tank" is an area in the gym where the students will reflect on their behavior.  If your child receives a yellow card, I will notify you via note or phone call. Severe discipline problems will be referred to our principal.

Grades: Grades are based on performance and conduct. The performance grade is based on effort. If students are giving 100% each time they come into PE class they will receive an S in performance. Conduct grades are based on number of yellow cards the child received during a nine week period.

Satisfactory - 0 yellow cards

Needs Improvement- 1-2 yellow cards

Unsatisfactory- 3 or more yellow cards

I am looking forward to working with your child and keeping them active. I appreciate your support and cooperation. Please feel free to contact me via email with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Kristy Stephenson
